Doug Panter Doug Panter was the original owner of this 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. He bought it new in December 1967 in Seattle Washington. Shortly thereafter Doug moved (with the Charger) to California. The engine was rebuilt in 1980 at 100,240+ miles due to the institution of unleaded gas and the need for hardened valves etc. During the rebuild, it got a Chrysler 'hemi grind' camshaft (aka purple shaft) which was one step up from stock because the stock cam was not available. The automatic transmission was replaced in 1982-3 with a 1970 transmission '727 type'(same as original...new from Chrysler), and Doug had the original transmission rebuilt and stored it. The car was repainted the original color in 1982 and the upholstery redone (in original material and design) around 1985. Doug created a web page where he shared the history of his Charger, which is how I found the car. He loved this car, and it was even mentioned in his obituary when he passed away in 2009.
